Richard’s STORY
Richard is the full-time driver for RoH. He has worked here for 3 years. Previously, he was a driver in Entebbe for the Ministry.
Richard said, “I am proud of working here. It’s a good mission. They pay you on time. They love us and also we love them.”
Richard is the father of 5, including a baby boy that was born on January 18th, while he was on his way to pick our team up from the airport.
The mother (Bettina) came to the Centre in labor and upon exam was found to be ruptured. Being only 32 weeks pregnant, she was referred to Rakai for further management. They were unable to stop her labor and she delivered a baby boy that weighed 2 kg (a little over 4 lbs).
Richard went to visit Bettina and the baby, and he was told his baby needed to be referred to a higher level of care, but there was no ambulance available for transportation. Richard drove back to the Centre and updated Rebecca.
Rebecca said, “We have an ambulance!” Richard replied, “Yes, but we need to go with midwives.” So, she told him to take the ambulance, an oxygen tank, and 2 midwives to go transport his baby. They then transferred the baby to a Masaka hospital.
Our co-founder Kerry said, “Richard has been loyal to the Hope Centre from the beginning and we are happy to be able to help his family today.”
End note: Richard has named his baby, Kerry.
